Haripurdhar Himachal Pradesh: Journey Through Scenic Landscapes and Rich Culture

At times, you land up at a place which leaves a deep impression on your mind. Tucked away in remote corner is Haripurdhar Himachal Pradesh. A small town in far flung area of District Sirmaur Haripurdhar is one such town.

Haripurdhar Himachal Pradesh

This town is located on a high ridge which overlooks a deep valley. Haripurdhar Himachal Pradesh is at an altitude of 2500 meters which makes it a perfect destination for anyone who loves solitude. Haripurdhar is not only for those who love nature but also for those with a religious bent of mind. Haripurdhar Himachal Pradesh is home to Maa Bhangiyani Temple who is the local deity of the region.

Trip to Haripurdhar Himachal Pradesh

I vividly remember that it was the month of January and I along with my friends planned this journey from Delhi. The 8–9-hour journey was going to be a trip of lifetime and as we entered Kala Amb, the mountain breeze began to flow.

One thing that you will vividly notice when on the way to Haripurdhar Himachal Pradesh is that the entire stretch has minimal vehicles. This adds to the serenity of the journey as you can relate and connect with nature.

Past Nahan, there is an eatery named Grand View where you can stopover for lunch, and we also did so. The food was delicious and on my request the cook dished out some authentic Pahari dishes including Siddu.

The road to Haripurdhar Himachal Pradesh is narrow, treacherous and with a lot of sharp curves and bends. It is not advised to drive here in dark if you are a new driver or someone who has driven less in Himachal Pradesh.

As we approached Haripurdhar, the evening had already set in and the cold too intensified. Our happiness knew no bounds when suddenly 5-7 km short of Haripurdhar Himachal Pradesh, traces of snow became evident on the road.

Trekkers Hostel

Our stay for the night was at Trekkers Hostel which is a premium property in this small sleepy town. However, the bedding was neatly done, quite cozy and the hot plate of Rajmah Chawal felt the best in the world.

A Peep into the Past

Post the dinner, we got together at the bonfire and the chowkidar Ajay also joined in. He was indeed a storehouse of knowledge and gave us a lot of Gyan on Haripurdhar town and its history. He informed us that this place was known as “Dungbhangayani” in earlier days. It was also the capital of Sirmour during summer months. A quila was also built here by the king to guard his state from intruders primarily from Jubbal state.

The fire also cooled down after a while and we decided to call it for the day.

Morning with Mist and Snow

The next morning, the view was simply awe inspiring. As I came out from the room, the white mantle had covered the neighboring mountain tops. The view was simply amazing, and we decided to head to the market. A cup of hot tea with stuffed parathas in an ambient atmosphere where white flakes were adding to the beauty made a deadly combination.

Visit to Maa Bhangiyani Temple

At Haripurdhar Himachal Pradesh, you are typically close to nature. There is not much to do and a visit to the Maa Bhangiyani temple is highly desirable. We also walked this distance of 2 Km playing in the snow and finally found ourselves ascending the stairs of the temple.

Maa Bhangiyani is known as Goddess of truth and justice and anyone who comes to her temple with a false intent draws the wrath of the goddess. The temple of Maa Bhangiyani is made in typical Kathkuni architecture style which is evident in upper reaches of Himachal Pradesh.

After seeking the blessings of the Goddess, it was time to head back. On a clear day, Himalayan Peaks are clearly visible from Haripurdhar Himachal Pradesh, and you would want to stay here forever and ever, if you are a nature lover!

Plan your visit to this remote and unknown region of Himachal Pradesh and seek the blessings of Goddess while admiring this nature and the Himachal Pradesh’s glory which is evident in the simplicity of its people and its rich and diverse culture.
