Ardh Kumbh is also celebrated every 6 years, and it is after 12 years now that Kumbh is being celebrated at Prayagraj.  Another noteworthy point here is that all these places are located on banks of holiest rivers of India. While Haridwar is on the banks of Ganga, Prayagraj is known as meeting point of Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati, Ujjain is on banks of Shipra and Nasik has Godavari flowing alongside.

With Jupiter being in Taurus and Sun, Moon in Makar Rashi, the festivities shift gear to Prayagraj, as is being done this time. As Jupiter shifts gear to Leo and Sun, Moon to cancer, the gathering also shifts to Nasik.

Devotees who decide to stay back at the gathering for few days are known as Kalpawasi as they take a break of few weeks from the daily chores of life and try to get a step closer to God.

Dip on the holy occasion of Makar Sankranti, Vasant Panchmi is also considered auspicious, and the number of devotees also increases manifold on these days. Sadhu akharas also set up their camps and go for shahi snan on pre decided days. When should you Visit Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj

There are six auspicious bathing days for Kumbh, and crores of devotees embark on this occasion. There are three Amrit snan days too. The first one was on January 14 or makar Sankranti, the second on January 29 or Mauni Amavasya and the last on February 3 or Basant Panchami.

The other auspicious days for Kumbh in Prayagraj are February 12 or Maghi Purnima and February 26 or Maha Shivaratri.

Special trains are in operation for this occasion, and you can book tickets online by visiting the official page of Indian Railways.
